Justin Johnson

Before starting pupillage, Justin worked on policy at the Ministry of Justice. His work focused on tackling child sexual abuse within the youth custodial estate and on improving resettlement outcomes for children leaving custody. He also worked on issues bridging multiple areas, like probation and sentencing, and regularly contributed to ministerial briefings and parliamentary questions.

Prior to joining the Ministry of Justice, Justin was a youth advocate at Just for Kids Law, where he worked directly with children and young people across a range of challenging situations, including criminal and sexual exploitation, homelessness, and health. His work mainly focused on community care, housing and education law, and he often worked with probation and Children’s Services on issues demanding a multiagency response.

Justin has also provided representation at the First-tier Tribunal in matters relating to the provision of appropriate educational support and benefits. He has also assisted with the preparation of asylum applications and appeals, with a particular focus on LGBT clients, while working at the Hackney Community Law Centre.
