Matthew was called to the Bar in 2006 and has spent time both in self-employed practice and as an employed barrister in private practice.

Matthew is currently mentioned as a ‘key lawyer’ in the Legal 500 Professional Discipline (Solicitors Guide).


Matthew has practised in crime, employment, personal injury and professional discipline and so has a wealth of experience across a range of sectors, courts and tribunals.

Matthew now specialises in fitness to practise, disciplinary and regulatory matters and acts for both regulators and regulated professionals.  Matthew has particular expertise in the healthcare, education and accountancy sectors.    Matthew has extensive experience of cases involving allegations of dishonesty, sexual misconduct and complex clinical failings.

Matthew has experience acting in proceedings at most of the healthcare regulators including the General Medical Council, the General Dental Council, the General Pharmaceutical Council, the General Optical Council, the General Osteopathic Council, the General Chiropractic Council, the Health and Care Professions Council, the Nursing and Midwifery Council and Social Work England.

Matthew has experience in the accountancy sector including in proceedings before the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, the Association of Accounting Technicians and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.

Matthew has acted as a legal advisor to the professional conduct panel of the Teaching Regulation Agency.

Matthew has acted in performers list proceedings at local level and on appeal to the First-Tier and Upper-Tier Tribunals.
