Jennifer Morris secures an acquittal for a vulnerable youth who was a victim of exploitation01 November 2023
Following a trial in the youth court, Jennifer Morris secured an acquittal for a young person charged with possession of two bladed articles in public. The Crown decided to proceed to trial, despite there being a positive conclusive grounds decision that the defendant was a victim of forced criminality.
Following trial, the Court found that the young person was a victim of forced criminality, and his actions were as a direct consequence of threats of violence received.
The Court held that a reasonable person in the same situation would have acted in the same way and any alternative action would not have provided the young person with sufficient protection.Return
