Heidi was called to the Bar in 1996 and has practiced solely in criminal law. Heidi practiced in criminal defence work for 10 years until 2006 when she joined the Crown Prosecution Service as an advocate.
Since then, she has prosecuted cases involving multiple defendants accused of offences relating to the importation and supply of drugs, firearms offences, people trafficking, gang murders and homicide offences. She was appointed Kings Counsel (QC as it was) in 2020.
Heidi is the first woman in the CPS to take silk and was the fourth person to do so in its history. She is a Governing Bencher of Inner Temple and an Advocacy Trainer for the Inn, a member of the Advocacy Training Committee and a faculty member and directing staff member of the Advanced International Advocacy Course (Keble).
She is the Master of Wellbeing, Assistant Master of the Employed Bar and Assistant Master of the Southeastern Circuit and a member of the Advocacy Training Committee and the Education and Training Committee. She is also a Scholarships interviewer and panel chair and an outreach volunteer for the Inn.
Heidi is an elected member of the Bar Council and a member of the Employed Barrister’s Committee having been its elected Vice Chair 2023-2024 and Chair in 2024-2025.
In May 2025 she was elected as Vice Chair of the Bar Council for 2026. She is the first employed practitioner to be elected to this role in 132 years. She is an approved Pupil Supervisor and speaks regularly to pupil barristers, in respect of Equality and Diversity at the Bar and Social Mobility. She is a member of the Criminal Bar Association and the Southeastern Circuit and is a visiting lecturer on the BPTC at ICCA.
