Prior to starting pupillage at 9BR Chambers, Mary worked as a County Court Advocate and in sentence management as a Probation Services Officer.
After completing her undergraduate law degree at the University of Warwick, Mary completed her Bar Course at the University of Law alongside her Masters in Clinical Legal Education. During this, she completed Pro Bono work as a Student Legal Advisor, in addition to drafting witness statements for complainants as a volunteer for the National Centre for Domestic Violence.
In the two years prior to commencing pupillage, Mary worked as a County Court Advocate appearing in front of District Judges across the South East and South West circuits in a variety of hearings including cross-examining in small claim trials, predominantly Road Traffic Accidents.
Mary also worked in Probation’s sentence management team, managing a caseload of low to medium risk offenders in the community post-sentence, including drafting reports for court, regular check-in appointments with people on probation and representing clients in case conferences with other agencies.
