Patricia May is renowned for her expertise in the criminal field, as both a prosecutor and defence counsel.

Background and expertise

Patricia specialises in sexual offences and is in particular demand in cases involving vulnerable people , both defendants and witnesses, where her communication skills stand her in very good stead.

She is a Grade 4 Prosecutor and is on the CPS Specialist rape list.

Her experience has been augmented by her having sat as a Crown Court Recorder, with authority to try rape and other cases concerning serious sexual offences.

Prosecuted  defendant for stranger rape against traumatised  teenage victim. Harrow Crown Court.

R v H and others, 2020

Prosecuted a series of linked  cases against  five defendants for offences of GBH with Intent, Violent disorder etc. The victims were subject to attacks with knives and axes and suffered life-changing injuries. Snaresbrook Crown Court.

R. v. R and others, 2020

Prosecuted five defendants for affray at an inquest. The  death  was that of a very young child and all defendants were family members necessitating particularly sensitive handling of witnesses and defendants. Maidstone Crown Court.

R. v. B, 2019

Represented defendant charged with sexual offences against a four-year old child  whose evidence was  adduced with the support of an Intermediary. Maidstone Crown Court.

R v W, 2019

Representing male defendant who was charged with sexual offences against a young female but who had since the offences trans-gendered into a female. Northampton Crown Court.

R v D and others, 2019

Prosecuting as Leading Junior an armed gang who kidnapped and held hostage a fifteen year old boy. Interpretation of Cell site evidence a substantial feature in proving case against the defendants. Croydon Crown Court.

Defending young Bulgarian female against charges of sexual assault against another young girl. Blackfriars Crown Court.

R v P, 2018

Defending man charged with Wounding with Intent and causing Serious Injury by Dangerous driving – identification issues. Basildon Crown Court.

R v D, 2018

Prosecuting mother of four on charges of Child Cruelty and Administering Noxious Substances to her young son. Canterbury Crown Court.

Defending man accused of multiple Rape and False Imprisonment. Inner London Crown Court

R v T-S, 2018

Defending 16 year old boy with mental health issues on charge of raping a 12 year old girl. Canterbury Crown Court

R v D and D, 2018

Prosecuting £200,000 fraud where the victim with mental health issues was defrauded of his inheritance by family members. Harrow Crown Court.

Prosecuting in Aggravated Burglary and Attempted rape of a 16 year old girl. Woolwich Crown Court .
