Ben Joyes will be attending DELF’s Clause 195 - House of Lords debate

On Thursday 5 February at 12pm, Clause 195 of the Crime and Policing Bill will be debated in the House of Lords. The clause would weaken safeguards against extradition following convictions in absence.

DELF has published a Supplementary Briefing Note identifying inaccuracies in the Government’s justification and highlighting real-world cases where existing protections prevented serious injustice. View the note here

DELF is seeking further examples of UK extradition cases refused due to the absence of a genuine right to retrial. Practitioners are invited to share relevant decisions.

Ben Joyes, DELF Chair, will attend the debate. Please contact him directly if you have observations on the Bill or case examples.

Thanks also to Rebecca Niblock (Kingsley Napley), James Stansfeld (Matrix Chambers) and Mary Westcott (Doughty Street Chambers) for their work on the DELF advocacy on this issue.
