Dréa Becker’s client unanimously acquitted of serious sexual and violent offences

Dréa Becker represented a defendant accused of rape, assault by penetration, strangulation, and domestic violence at Luton Crown Court. The prosecution’s case was that the defendant had been violent and controlling towards his partner over a number of years, before then committing serious sexual offences when both were taking cocaine and drinking alcohol.

Careful analysis of the complainant’s allegations, including multiple police reports, helped to challenge the prosecution case. The defence case was that the complainant had used false allegations and police reports as a weapon as part of a toxic relationship, in which she had been violent and abusive towards the defendant.

Following trial, Dréa’s client was unanimously acquitted of all sexual offences (rape and assault by penetration), strangulation, and two counts of coercive and controlling behaviour in an intimate relationship. The defendant was convicted of one count of criminal damage of a lamp.

Dréa was instructed by Angie Deaon of Lawtons Criminal Defence Solicitors.
