Empower the People Secures Criminal Summonses Over Co-ordinated Harassment Campaign London, UK – 14 October 2025
The Chairman of Empower the People (EtP), a private members’ association, has secured criminal summonses against three social media influencers, two women and one man – all individuals in their early fifties – following a sustained and coordinated campaign of online harassment targeting EtP’s leadership, members, and affiliated organisations, which began just a little over a year ago.
Between October 2024 and September 2025, each defendant engaged in a pattern of defamatory, abusive, and racially charged communications across multiple platforms. The summonses were granted by Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on 25 September 2025 following a detailed application which was carefully assessed. The defendants are required to appear in court in early December 2025.
EtP has instructed Gary Summers of 9BR Chambers, a leading barrister in private prosecutions, to lead the case. He is also acting in another concurrent private prosecution initiated by EtP, reinforcing the association’s commitment to legal accountability and the protection of its members.
Despite opportunities for constructive engagement, the three individuals chose instead to continue to weaponize social media, targeting EtP’s trustees, members, and partners with falsehoods and inflammatory content which were not expressions of free speech but calculated efforts to harass, intimidate, defame, and destabilise.
EtP reaffirms its commitment to transparency, lawful conduct, and the right of its members to operate free from harassment. Any legitimate concerns should be raised through appropriate legal channels, where EtP will always cooperate fully.
Further updates will be provided as proceedings in court progress.
