Inquiry Hears Evidence on Menson Police Failings

On 27 November 2025, Lennart Poulsen of 9BR Chambers questioned core participants MSS and MWS before the Undercover Policing Inquiry as part of its Tranche 3 hearings. They gave powerful evidence on the police’s early failures in investigating the racist murder of their brother, Michael Menson, musician and former member of 1990s group Double Trouble.

They described how officers wrongly assumed self-harm, ignored Michael’s account of being set alight, failed to designate a crime scene and failed to collect vital forensic evidence. MSS and MWS spoke of the racism and indifference they faced and the emotional toll of having to campaign for a proper investigation — all while unaware that undercover police were covertly monitoring their family the latter’s campaign for justice for Michael.

The hearing was streamed in audio only on the Inquiry’s YouTube channel due to special measures protecting the witnesses’ anonymity.
