Jens Dieckmann, German Attorney-at-Law and International Defence and Victims’ Counsel, will contribute to the ADC Universal Jurisdiction Webinar Series 2026, Change of Forum: how international criminal law is on the move.
His session, The Evolution of Universal Jurisdiction in Germany and Lessons in Practice, will take place on 30 November 2026 at 16:00 CET.
The series examines the growing importance of domestic jurisdictions in the investigation and prosecution of international crimes. While The Hague remains closely associated with international criminal justice, national courts and specialised accountability mechanisms increasingly address atrocity crimes through proceedings brought closer to affected communities, evidence and witnesses.
Drawing on German practice, Jens will address the evolution of universal jurisdiction in Germany and the practical considerations arising in domestic proceedings. The session will be of particular interest to practitioners engaged in international criminal law, including those acting for defendants and victims, as well as those concerned with the development of effective, fair and rights-compliant accountability processes.
The webinar series also features sessions on local accountability mechanisms and the building of conflict cases across jurisdictions. It is organised by ADC and is free for ADC Members; non-members may attend individual sessions for €10.
