In 2015/16, Jens Dieckmann was a member of the Drafters Committee and the Interim Board of the ICCBA. He served the ICCBA inter alia as Vice President for Victims (2017/2018 and 2018/2019) and was Chair of the Victims Committee in 2017/2018 and 2018/2019. He was member of the Executive Council 2016-2019 and of the Victims Committee 2023/2024. Since 2011 he is Court appointed Common Legal Representative, Associate Counsel, for all Victims in the ICC Banda Case.

"The complete absence of a mandatory professional ethics advisory service for lawyers from lawyers was one of the key motivations for me to fight for the establishment of the ICCBA since 2008. Fairness in court is only possible if lawyers adhere to the highest professional and ethical standards. I am very pleased to be able to contribute to making this happen at the ICC in the coming year", said Jens Dieckmann.

Background

The International Criminal Court Bar Association’s (ICCBA) establishment in July 2016 marked the fulfillment of a long-standing goal to establish a much-needed representative association of legal practitioners focused on matters relevant to the work of List Counsel and Support Staff before the International Criminal Court (ICC). At the 18th Session of the Assembly of States Parties, the ICCBA was officially recognised as the only representative body of counsel at the ICC in accordance with Rule 20(3) of the ICC Rules of Procedure and Evidence.

The Professional Standards Advisory Committee provides advice and guidance to members on the Code of Conduct for Counsel and can offer advisory opinions when requested.
