Jessica Clarke secures acquittal of an ‘unfit’ defendant in an attempted rape

The defendant was alleged to have attempted to rape one neighbour and sexually assault another in a violent attack which came to an end when one complainant was thrown down a flight of stone stairs.

Once the defendant had been found unfit to plead, Jessica successfully argued that the appropriate actus reus was sexual assault rather than attempted rape.

Following a two day trial at Inner London Crown Court the defendant was acquitted of all sexual offences.
