Joey Kwong, leading Kabir Sondhi, prosecuted a six-handed trial of conspiracy to commit fraud and conspiracy to convert criminal property.
The case concerned a bank insider and her partner who diverted customer funds through a money-mule network.
During a five-week trial, the Crown presented extensive evidence, including material from 18 victim and mule bank and cryptocurrency accounts, 14 fraudulent audio calls, voice comparison expert evidence, multiple messaging threads, and call-data analysis.
In cross-examination, the Crown rebutted the bank insider’s defence of duress based on alleged domestic violence by her co-accused.
Both the bank insider and her partner were convicted and have been remanded into custody awaiting sentence, along with several of the money mules.
Joey and Kabir were instructed by Shreeta Gondhia of the CPS London.
