Seminar: Trial by media? Navigating news reporting in criminal courts

9BR Chambers will hold their latest autumn seminar ' Trial by media? Navigating news reporting in criminal courts' on 22nd November at 6pm. The seminar will focus on court reporting and its impact on criminal practitioners. It will be presented by two former journalists who are now both members of 9BR Chambers, Andrew Bousfield and Lucy Kinder.

They will discuss how to handle media coverage in high-profile criminal cases. This will include all aspects of a criminal case from investigation, arrest, charge and through to trial.

Meet our speakers:

  • Andrew Bousfield (9BR Chambers)

Andrew was a journalist for Private Eye, winning the Paul Foot Award for investigative journalism, with stories on whistleblowing and Russian money laundering.  Prior to that he was a lawyer for the Sun and the Sunday Mirror for many years - advising on super-injunctions, large tabloid running stories, sex scandals and exposes, and running coverage of high-profile police investigations.  All of this was at the forefront of privacy and libel law.

  • Lucy Kinder (9BR Chambers)

Lucy began her career as a journalist. She undertook her training at Columbia University in New York and spent time at newspapers both abroad and in the UK. She wrote for The Daily Telegraph, covering domestic and foreign affairs, politics and sport.
