Stefan Hyman successfully prosecuted an extradition case from the UK’s Sovereign Base Areas (SBAs) in Cyprus to Belgium. The defendant is accused alongside many others of scamming pensioners in Flanders of their savings. He was arrested in the SBAs in early July 2026. Three others arrested in Cyprus have already been surrendered to Belgium on EAWs. Extradition takes place under the Extradition Act 2003 and the Belgium-UK Extradition Treaty 1901. A copy of Senior Judge Plimmer’s judgment can be found here. Stefan was led by Helen Malcolm KC.
