Mary Collingridge secured a suspended sentence for both lead co-defendants in £80,000 theft from their employer over an 18-month time frame.
Both defendants pleaded guilty at first appearance alongside two others to one count of theft from an employee over an 18-month time frame between 2024-25. Approximately £38,000 was attributed to each of the lead defendants. The judge described the operation as a significant breach of trust, given the length of time that each of the defendants had worked at the business and the trust placed in each of them.
Mary represented both lead co-defendants at first appearance and committal for sentence. At sentence, Mary made submissions in relation to both defendants on mitigating factors such as early plea and remorse, in addition to personal circumstances which necessitated that the defendants remain in the community. This included one defendant’s caring responsibilities and the other’s secured employment which would allow him to pay back compensation owed to the victim.
Both custodial sentences were suspended with both defendants to complete unpaid work and supervision with the probation services.
Mary was instructed by Lorrie Brown of Reeds Solicitors.
