Nutan Fatania represented a Defendant who stabbed his twin brother with a knife to the neck and other parts of the body, in their family home.
The Defendant was vulnerable and was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia. He was assisted by an intermediary for the entirety of the criminal proceedings. The defence of insanity was pursued at trial. The Defendant’s twin brother attended the trial to give evidence. The defence case included the evidence of two psychiatrists.
In relation to counts of attempted murder, wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (in the alternative) and threatening with a bladed article in a private place, the jury found the Defendant not guilty by reason of insanity.
Nutan was instructed by Seema Dosaj of Berri’s Law.
